Frequently asked questions

How do I get started?

Open Settings, choose a model from the catalog (download it if needed), then start a new chat and send a message. The model runs on your device, so the first reply may take a moment.

How do I add documents to the knowledge base?

In your active persona's Knowledge base, add text, Markdown, or PDF files — or fetch a URL. Everything is indexed locally; nothing is uploaded. The assistant searches it when you ask questions.

Is web search private?

Web search is optional. When enabled, only the search query is sent to DuckDuckGo — never your full conversation. Your chat history stays on your device.

What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol lets you add third-party servers that expose extra tools. Add server URLs per-persona in Settings. MCP servers are third parties outside our control — see the Privacy Policy.

Is my data private?

Yes. All processing runs on your device. No data is sent to our servers — we don't have any. No telemetry, no analytics, no account.

Troubleshooting

Model won't load or generation fails
  • Free up storage and memory — large models need more RAM.
  • Try a smaller model if the device struggles.
  • Restart the app; on iOS, keep it in the foreground.
Chat not saving or not in Files
  • iOS: look in the app's Documents folder in Files.
  • macOS: check Documents/Sessions-AI.
  • Confirm the app can write to its Documents folder.
Web search not working
  • Enable web search in Settings.
  • Check your internet connection.
  • DuckDuckGo may rate-limit — wait and retry.
Knowledge base not retrieving
  • Confirm documents are added to the active persona.
  • Each persona has its own knowledge base.
  • Ask something that relates to your documents.
