Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I get started?
A: Open Settings, choose a model from the catalog (and download it if needed), then start a new chat. Type your message and send. The model runs on your device, so first responses may take a moment.
Q: How do I add documents to the knowledge base?
A: Go to Settings > Knowledge Base (within your active persona) and add documents. Supported formats include text, markdown, and PDF. Documents are indexed locally—nothing is uploaded. The assistant will search them when you ask questions.
Q: What tools are available?
A: Built-in tools include: calculator, unit conversion, calendar, reminders, optional web search (DuckDuckGo), fetch page, Wikipedia, clipboard, contacts, maps, and planning. On macOS only: file search, mail, notes, screen capture, and system control. You can also add MCP servers for additional tools.
Q: Is web search private?
A: Web search is optional and can be enabled in Settings. When used, only the search query is sent to DuckDuckGo—not your full conversation. Your chat history stays on your device.
Q: What is MCP?
A: MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets you add third-party servers that expose tools the assistant can call. Add MCP server URLs in Settings > MCP. Note: MCP servers are third parties over which we have no control. See our
Privacy Policy for details.
Q: How do I change the model or generation settings?
A: In Settings, use the Model section to select a different model. Use Generation to adjust max tokens and temperature. Advanced sampling lets you tune top-k, top-p, and other parameters.
Q: Is my data private?
A: Yes. All processing runs on your device. No data is sent to our servers—we don't have any. No telemetry, no analytics, no account. See our

Troubleshooting
Common Issues and Solutions
Model won't load / Generation fails
- Ensure you have enough free storage and memory. Larger models need more RAM.
- Try a smaller model if your device struggles with large models.
- Restart the app and try again.
- On iOS, ensure the app is in the foreground (backgrounding can pause generation).
Chat not saving / Not visible in Files
- On iOS: Chats are in the app's Documents folder in the Files app.
- On macOS: Chats are in Documents/Sessions-AI.
- Ensure the app has permission to write to its Documents folder.
Web search not working
- Enable web search in Settings.
- Check that you have an internet connection.
- DuckDuckGo may rate-limit; wait a moment and try again.
Knowledge base not retrieving
- Verify you've added documents to the knowledge base for your active persona.
- Each persona has its own knowledge base—ensure you're using the right one.
- Try asking a question that relates to content in your documents.
MCP tools not working
- Verify the MCP server URL is correct and the server is running.
- Check that your device can reach the server (network/firewall).
- MCP config is per-persona—ensure the server is added for the persona you're using.
System Requirements
- iOS: 18.0 or later

- Storage: Models require significant space (from hundreds of MB to several GB depending on model size)
